Ellie Hall
Based in Chicago, IL

BIO

Ellie Hall is a proud Chicago filmmaker who believes strongly in the midwestern, anti-bi-coastal film industry — and that’s a flat field she’s willing to die on.

After graduating from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC) in 2018, she began freelancing full time for several years, eventually landing her first feature film, editing Cecily and Lydia at the Waypoint, which went on to win the Grand Prize at the Best of the Midwest awards. In 2020, she was selected to join the junior board of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS), where she worked with other young professionals to welcome the next generation of filmmakers.

Making the transition to commercial, Ellie joined Someoddpilot in 2022 as an editor, and has since become an integral part of the process, leading creative from pre to post. Her recent work includes campaigns for clients such as Darn Tough, Kettle & Fire, Skyy Vodka, and TravelPro.

Outside of the agency walls, Ellie has been directing narrative and documentary shorts with all the PTO she can get. She’s currently in production for a short doc about the small town of New Cuyama, CA, directing and shooting in partnership with filmmaker Zoe Hertz.

ARTIST STATEMENT

Staring down the barrel of early onset adulthood, artist Ellie Hall has begun to regress to her earlier years as a midwest tween. A self-identifying video artist, feminist and Cyber Witch, Ellie Hall reenacts narratives that exploit objecthood, validate insecurity, and celebrate friendship. Her obsession with girlhood comes from girlhoods obsession with itself, as she works to explore passion in the least romantic way possible. Wacky, wonderful and weird, this new take on coming of age rewrites history for the young women of The Cornbelt.
